IDP Smart 70 series printer, how to resolve a ribbon break issue

This topic discusses adjusting the IDP Smart 70 series Printer to resolve a ribbon breaks.

 

It is important to understating that improper adjustment of the offsets or an incorrect card template may cause your printer to malfunction , snap ribbons or have print quality issues.

 

The following steps make sure the printer is set edge to edge internally. The objective is to get the registration circles on the test card right into the radius of the card corner without cropping any of the circles off.

 

1. Print out the internal test card from the top panel LCD menu. This one has been optimised already.

 

 

 

a) press Options button ( left most button with lines)

b) press right button 4 times to select “operation”

c) hit ‘return’ (right most  button) to print test card above.

 

### ALWAYS KEEP THIS CARD AS A REFERENCE POINT SO YOU CAN REVERT BACK TO THE WORKING SETTINGS IF YOU HAVE PRINTER ISSUES. ###

 

2. Adjusting the offsets will move the internal test card in the following manor using the LCD menu

 

X Offset                               a positive (+) Value with move the test card down off the bottom edge of the card. A minus (-) value will move the card up off the top edge of the card.

 

Range +/- 30      optimum usually  around  0 to -10

 

Y StartPosition                   a positive (+) Value will adjust the position of the left hand edge of the card moving the image to the right, further onto the card which will is better for stopping ribbon breaks. 

                                                a minus value (-) will move the image to the left moving the image off the left edge of the card.

 

Range +/- 30      optimum usually  around  0 to -10

 

 

Y EndPosition     a positive (+) Value will adjust the position of the Right hand edge of the card, increasing the area printed.

                                a minus value (-) will crop the image to the left cropping the image off the right edge of the card which is better for stopping ribbon breaks.

 

Range +/- 30      optimum usually  around  0 to +10

 

 

 

YScale - a positive (+) Value will increase / stretch the printed image longer on the card.

                                A minus (-) value will decrease /  compress the printed image on the card.

 

# IF THE YStartPosition is set too low the ribbon will snap at the beginning of a panel/Start of card #

 

# IF THE YEndPosition is set too High the ribbon will snap at the end of a panel/End of card #

 

To Adjust the offsets ..

 

a) press Options button ( 3 lines)

b) press right button 3 times to select “Print Config”

c) hit return button access print config and use left or right keys to select one of the required settings.

d) Hit  ‘return’ (right most  button) to Select and * the setting so it can be adjusted. Use left / right key to adjust value then hit ‘return’ again to set setting into the printers memory.

 

 

3. Adjust the offsets in this order..

 

 

a) adjust the X Offset so the registration circles touch the top and bottom edges of the card equally without either of the circles being cropped off.

b) adjust the YStartPostion so the registration Circles touch the left edge with a slight white edge.

c) adjust the YEndPostion so the registration Circles touch the right edge with a slight white edge.

d) if the YEndPostion adjustment cannot get the circles to print on the right hand edge check the YScale offset is not set to high or too low.

 

4. The final set is to print 10 – 20 cards in a row until the settings made print in batches so you know the printer is stable.
