The issue reported was that the ribbon had broken. Typically the ribbon does not break because it is faulty. The printer malfunctions and this breaks the ribbon. Ribbons are only a few microns thick so it is not unusual for this to happen if the printer has an issue.
There are many things that can cause a ribbon to break, poor quality cards, aging printer, printer setup up incorrectly and user error and as a result we do not swap out ribbons just because the ribbon has broken. Standard industry practice with any card printer is to repair the ribbon,
clean the printer and check it is fully functional before continuing printing.
The customer reported he does clean his printer on a regular basis and he has repaired the ribbon and the printer is working which is good news.
