Instant ID Licence Error

Modified on Mon, 14 Mar, 2022 at 2:11 PM

ll customers are provided keys that never expire. With Instant ID, the Product Key is stored in two places and these two places must be able to communicate with each other.

  1. In a back end DB used by Instant ID
  2. In the “License Administrator” software application. See my License Administrator app on my PC

Once this connection is broken, Instant ID will default to “evaluation mode”, whereby it runs for 30 days or 90 days (depending on the software version. We changed from 90 to 30 days a few versions ago). Once the connection is re-established, this time limit and the message they’re seeing will go away.

In 99% of Instant ID installs, License Administrator is installed on the same PC as Instant ID. Some customers have Licence Administrator installed on a different PC to Instant ID,

So the only reasons for this message displaying are:

  1. The “License Administrator” software is hosted on the same PC as Instant ID, but Instant ID cannot communicate with License Administrator:
    1. Check the “Datacard Software License Server” service is running
    2. Check the Product Key in License Administrator still has a status of “Activated”, with no date in the “Expiration” column

  1. The “License Administrator” software is being hosted on a different PC to the Instant ID PC and the comms between the two PCs is lost
    1. Check the “Datacard Software License Server” service is running
    2. Check the Product Key in License Administrator still has a status of “Activated”, with no date in the “Expiration” column
    3. Check the Instant ID PC can communicate with the License Administrator PC
    4. Ensure ports 11273 and 11274 are not blocked (these are the ports used by License Administrator)
