CardsOnline: Microsoft has announced that Basic Authentication shall no longer be supported in SMTP servers.

Hello,

We would like to draw your attention to the following:

As of October 1st, 2022 Microsoft has announced that Basic Authentication shall no longer be supported in SMTP servers.

If you are currently using an SMTP configuration which utilizes Microsoft Exchange Online/Office 365 then there is a possibility that you may encounter disruptions when sending emails.
This does not apply to clients using the native CardsOnline “SendGrid” STMP Server which is unaffected by this issue.

We send you this email because research by us indicated your CardsOnline / Service Portal environment uses an SMTP server unknown to us or we cannot determine that you are using the standard CardsOnline / Service Portal Sendgrid SMTP server.
We ask that you to please check your configuration to ensure that you are affected by this issue, as a result you may not be able to send service messages from Cards Online as a result.

More detailed information from Microsoft can be found at the link below:

“During the month of September 2022, the diagnostic will offer only the option to opt-out. By submitting your opt-out request during September, you are telling us that you do not want us to disable basic for a protocol or protocols during October.  Please understand we will be disabling Basic Authentication for all tenants permanently in January 2023, regardless of their opt-out status.”

CardsOnline / Service Portal currently still uses the ''Basic Authentication'' methodology. This means that for SMTP servers included in Microsoft Exchange Online / Office 365, this methodology will no longer be supported as of October 1st, 2022.
From that moment on, only the ''Modern Authentication'' methodology will be activated, which can therefore cause disruption in sending e-mails.

To avoid this problem, Microsoft offers an "opt-out" option that guarantees the use of Basic Authentication until the end of 2022.
However, this requires you to actively enable this option!
Via the link above you will find all information about this.

ScreenCheck is currently working on a new release of CardsOnline/Service Portal with "Modern Authentication''. As soon as it is available, an update of your system will be planned in consultation with you in a timely manner.

Different from the normal support procedure, if you have any questions, please contact the ScreenCheck Support Desk directly at support@screencheck.com.
We trust that we have informed you sufficiently.

Sincerely,

Digital ID
