Importing Badgemaker/Securit v7.X Projects

Modified on Wed, 25 Mar 2020 at 04:25 PM

Badgemaker Identity has the built in feature to import the projects from the predecessor software, Securit or Badgemaker lite/4400/5400/6400.

To do this, you need to open Badgemaker Identity and create a new project. From here you will have a few options, and you want to select "Import BM7 Project".

From here, you'll need to select the .BM file for the old project. If you previously had the old software on the same PC then it will be in C:\SC\BMx400\Projects\<Project Name>

Once you've done that it should look like this.

It may take a moment to display the total number of records depending on how many are in your database. If it doesn't change from 0 then there is an issue with the previous data and you should contact us for assistance.

Hit next step and this will take you to the Project Structure screen.

This should show you all of your database columns from the previous software, as well as some redundant columns such as LAYOUT and TAG. These can be deleted with the black X icon on the right, as well as any columns you don't need anymore, if there are any.

This is also a good chance to rename the project with the text box at the top, as well as rename any fields that you wish to.

If you go to next step, this will go to Biometric settings.

By default Badgemaker will setup the new project ready to store and import your previous passport photos and signatures, if you don't want either of these then you can turn them off with the tick boxes.

At this point, you can repeatedly hit Next Step to finish the import, but below you will find information on the next steps.

Next step is View Configuration, if it is your first time using Badgemaker and this bit doesn't make sense it is completely skippable. You can always adjust this bit later if you want so feel free to hit next step, in which case you will be on the Triggers page.

In View Configuration you're choosing what is displayed in these different "Views". Once you complete the import these can be turned on or off but at this point you're choosing what you would like to be shown in these areas. Below is a screenshot of Badgemaker after the import, the area marked in red is the Detail View and the area marked in yellow is the Gallery View.

So in this section you're just selecting any database columns you want to see in these views and where they will appear. You don't have to fill every drop down box with a field, you can leave any of them blank if you like.

Detail View tab.

Gallery View tab.

These views can be changed at any point after the import. Once you're done hit Next Step.

The Triggers page is where you can setup automatic functions in Badgemaker based on certain events. The import will try to preserve any triggers set up in the previous software but this step can usually be skipped.

A good example of a trigger would be filling the "Issue Date" field of someones record with today's date automatically when printing their card.

To set up a trigger, first select the Event you would like to place a trigger on. Then select the field you wish to update from the drop down box at the bottom and click Add Trigger. Then make any changes required to the update you want it to make.

Once you're done, go to next step.

Lastly, you just need to hit the Create Project button.

Depending on the size of your database, how many records have photos, the import can be near instant or potentially take a few hours. Once done you should find Badgemaker has successfully copied your project into Badgemaker and you're good to go.
